Best pillow for back sleepers, with return terms

What height means for back sleepers

Every row on this page is here because its maker’s page or its Amazon listing names back sleepers, or all sleep positions. Cozy Earth comes closest to naming a height for back sleepers, saying its medium loft suits back and side sleepers, and it gives no figure for that loft. So this page reports stated heights and leaves the match to you.

The stated figures differ widely. SofGlowly lists 2.25 inches of thickness and Bluewave Bedding 2.75 inches.

Tuft & Needle states 5 inches, and Purple states 5.5 to 7.5 inches across its height options. Sidney Sleep lists 7 inches. Casper lists 9 inches uncompressed, and Beckham lists 8 inches overfilled.

Some makers let you change the height. Layla, Coop, Naturepedic and Luxome say to add or remove fill or inserts, and Casper says to remove the insert. Where a maker gives a range, as Saatva does with 4-5 inches standard and 6-7 inches high, the ledger above shows it.

How we pick

A row is included when its maker’s page or its Amazon listing names back sleepers or all sleep positions and states a price we could read. Only pillows for the head count, so knee, body, CPAP and wedge pillows stay off this page.

The ledger orders rows by what it costs to send the pillow back, then the longest stated window, then the lowest price. A row whose pages say too little goes in the second table, ordered by window and price.

Each pick above follows one stated rule: the first row of the table, the first row whose maker states how the height changes, or the lowest price among every row. No maker paid for a place, and no row here pays us; how we check and how we make money explain both. The pillow reviews hold the rest.

Who should not buy a new pillow

If your current pillow works for you, nothing in the record shows a new one would do better. Makers’ health claims, such as Casper’s neck pain wording, are the makers’ own.

Skip a pillow whose terms you cannot accept. Tempur-Pedic states that pillows may not be returned. Boll & Branch states no trial or return window. Peacock Alley charges a $9.95 return fee, and Luxome deducts return shipping from your refund.
